Chad Reads to Cason

These two pictures are some of the sweetest pictures that we have taken in a while.  Chad wanted to help Cason calm down so he grabbed Cason's paci and some of books to read to Cason.  Chad got a small glimpse into the life of a parent as he expressed his frustration in trying to do "two things at once" and it being hard.

Chad's sweet spirit really comes out in his careful watch of Cason all the while trying to turn pages while he read.  I have video of this but that will have to be another time.

On another note, we are thrilled with the eduacation that Chad is getting at school.  He has a wonderful teacher and has started him off on the right foot - Chad loving to learn.  Each day we get glimpses into what he is learning.  Things that make me want to go to school too!  I love how his teacher has come along side what we are doing at home to expand his world even more!

Friends, Skunk?

A conversation that I just overheard while the siblings are coloring:

Kaylee:  You're my friend.  Right, Skunk?
Cole:  Yeh, I'm your friend.
Kaylee:  Thanks, Skunk!

Every once in a while Kaylee calls Cole "Skunk".  He thinks it is funny so she has continued.

We're Back

I had hoped to update the blog several times this past week but it simply hasn't happened.  Everything took a back burner when we ended up staying another night in the hospital for Cason's jaundice and then still had to do the lights at home starting on Monday.  This means 2 hour feedings around the clock and daily trips to the doctor to check the counts.  This also ties Mommy down to a plug in while nursing for Casons' bili light.

So, let's back up a little bit and I will try to fill in all of the gaps. (All of this is written down so that I can put it directly into Cason's scrapbooks.  I apologize to those who actually take the time to read this!)

November 16th - Mommy and Daddy got up at 4:15 to get ready to head to the hospital.  Once there, they immediately got a room and everything was started.  For a few different reason, Dr. C wanted to take the process slower than usual so this gave Mommy time to rest before I came.  Around 1:00, the nurses had Mommy sit up and I started getting ready to be born.  It didn't take long and I was here.

November 18th - Even though Mommy was doing well, we stayed another night to give me more time with the nurses in case my jaundice levels started to rise.  Mommy and Daddy were all prepared to take me home with a light but Dr. F felt it best that we stay another night so that I could be in the nursery with better lights.  It was a very long night for Mommy as the nurses did not take very good care of me.  She walked several times to the nursery to check on and feed me.  My counts ended up going up a little bit during the day.

November 19th - The picture above was taken of me in the nursery on the jaundice bed light.  Mommy remembered to take a picture when it was too late.  The bed was egg shaped and the light was in the bottom of it.  They put the purple mask over my head so that the lights didn't bother my eyes.  Typically I was on my tummy while on this light  My counts leveled off at 12.1 this morning and Dr. F said that I could go home.  Grams, Cole, and Kaylee welcomed me home that morning.  Chad was excited to see me after he got home from school.

November 20th - Sadly Grams had to return home but we seemed to survive the weekend.  Thankfully the weather was really nice so my brothers and sister were able to go outside and play.

November 22nd - Daddy took us to my doctor's appointment.  We found out that my counts had jumped up to 20.3.  Since Dr. F knew my Mommy would take care of me, we were sent home - instead of the NICU.  A bili light was brought to us and we started that immediately.  Grandpa and Grandma came later that night to help out.

November 23rd - Mommy and I headed back to the doctor.  My count was down to 18.7.  Grandpa and Grandma had to leave but we were thankful for their help.

November 24th - Everyone except Daddy went to the doctor with me.  My count was down to 16.6.  We were told to stay under the lights as much as possible but I could go three hours at night between feedings.  Grams, Papa, Uncle Heath, Aunt Jennifer, and Kenzie arrived for Thanksgiving.

...I will update more later!

Fall Pictures

Here are a few pictures Michael took this past weekend (before we had Cason)...

This may very well be my absolute favorite picture of Cole:

I love pictures of the kids playing together.  I wouldn't trade my memories of Heath, Tara and I giggling and playing together for the world.

Picture Windows

I have been wanting to do something with the windows that we hung in the play room.  A friend gave me an idea which lead to this idea.  Kyra helped me put it together.  I still want to add a barn board above the TV but that will come.

It's No Secret...

It's no secret that this Momma doesn't enjoy being pregnant.  Probably because I have so few days that I feel good.  Between kidney stones, ribs out of place, morning sickness...don't forget the fatigue and my mind being gone...what a mess.

Now I find myself at the end of this long journey with just a few days to go.  I can't sleep.  I look in the mirror and wonder what is staring back at me.  Everything is enlarged 3x and I hope not to run into anyone that I know - literally and figuratively.  Part of me wants to pull the covers over my head and not come out until it's time.

But then the Holy Spirit taps me on the shoulder and gives me a little perspective.  I have had the privilege of carrying four babies to full-term.  I know women who would give their left arm to do this.  We have had our share of hiccups along the way but at this point we have three pretty healthy kiddos.  We are praying Baby 4 is as well.

I have the joy of listening to three kiddos say things like:
"Good morning, Mommy.  How did you sleep?"
"Mommy, does your back hurt?  I can rub it for you."
"I love you, Mommy."
So...while I still struggle to get out of bed, can't remember what I was going to say, and am tired of tight maternity clothes, I thank God for the blessing of this new baby.  A child that has been prayed for.  A child that we are anxious to meet and watch how God uses to further the Gospel.

Words from Our Children

Cole:  I want milk.
Mommy:  Not for snack time.  You can have some at snack time.
Cole:  (whine) I want milk now!
Mommy:  Do you need to go to your room?
Cole:  (quietly) Yes.  (pause)  Mommy, I don't need to go to my room.  I will just have water with my snack.

Kaylee:  Mommy, I have a cold.  I need some medicine.
Mommy:  Okay.
Kaylee:  I need to get feeling better before the baby comes.  I don't want to get the baby sick!

Cole's Prayers...
Dear God, we having trouble.  Help God be safe. A....Men!

Cole's declaration of needing to use the potty..
"I need to go pot (giggle)!"

Mommy laid in bed a little bit later than the rest of the family Saturday morning.
Daddy:  Where are you going?
Cole:  I need to talk to Mommy.
Daddy:  No.  Leave her alone.
Cole:  I NEED to talk to Mommy.
Daddy:  What do you need to tell her?
Cole:  I need to tell her she can get up now!

Halloween Picts - Cole

Our Little Peter Pan received several comments this year.

Broom ball pushing...
Golfing...
We all had a great time and are thankful for the fun opportunity that the church provides us!

Halloween Picts - Chad

For Halloween, Chad wanted to be a cowboy.  He asked Grams to bring down Aunt Tara's cowboy boots so that he could wear them.  He would wear them every day is he could.

All dressed up, ready to go trick-or-treating.  We did our trick-or-treating on Friday night since the 31st was Sunday.
On Wednesday night we attended the church's Fall Festival.  The kids look forward to this every year.
